Panosteitis is a disease of the long bones of mostly young, growing large-breed dogs, especially those from 5 to 18 months of age. But even younger dogs and dogs as old as 7 years of age have been reported to be afflicted. German shepherd males are most frequently affected, but the disease is frequently found in Basset hounds, Saint Bernards, Golden retrievers, Great Danes, Labrador retrievers, large breed dogs, and giant breed dogs.Authored by: Becky Lundgren, DVM (Published: 3/19/2010)
